“Mubarak, Ben Ali, now it’s time for Sayyid Ali!”

Riot police in Iran beat protestors, and fired tear gas yesterday, in the largest uprising in the country since June 2009, inspired by successful revolutions in Egypt and Tunisia.

One person was killed from the violence in Tehran.

Iranian officials have tried to portray the toppling of secular leaders in both Egypt and Tunisia, as an echo of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution, while the opposition has depicted the uprisings as an echo of their own anti-government protests n 2009.
